The Department of Finance have made revisions to the charitable donations tax scheme, announced by Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan TD, in December’s 2012 Budget. The revisions have the following effect on tax relief for charitable donations:
- From January 2013 tax relief on donations will in future be paid directly to the charity, applying equally to PAYE and self-assessed donors.
- Tax relief will be allowed at a new rate of 31%, regardless of the donor’s actual tax rate, thus valuing all donations from the public equally.
How you can help us further for free:
At the end of the year if you have made a donation of €250 or more we will write to you enclosing a form which we will ask you to fill in your PPS number, sign your name and return to us. This will allow us to claim the tax relief that we outlined above. Donors may opt to make an ‘enduring declaration’ for up to five years. This removes the need for annual form filling by donors and eases the administrative burden on charities and the Revenue.
Legacies are an important source of income for Marymount. They provide us with essential funds that enable us to make long-term plans and ensure that the hospital and the hospice can continue its work.
A large percentage of Irish people fail to make a will. This can lead to complicated financial and legal problems for families in the aftermath of a loved one’s death. Making a will is often easier and less expensive than people imagine. A valid will ensures that family members are provided for and are protected from unnecessary stress.
By making a will and pledging a legacy to Marymount, you can help ensure that our work will continue to benefit terminally ill people and their families for generations to come.
