How to get a Continuing Care Bed - Application Process

To avail of a bed in Marymount University Hospital you must apply for government funding via the Nursing Home Support Scheme (NHSS), also known as “Fair Deal”.

Step 1:

Contact the NHSS office and ask for an application form (NHSSI), see details below.

Step 2:

Submit the completed application form to the NHSS Office.

Step 3:

The NHSS support office will then process the application and a member of their clinical assessment team will assess the patient prior to the person being officially offered a NHSS bed. (The clinical assessment team will complete the CSARS form).

Step 4:

You must now wait for a letter of approval* from the NHSS office and this letter will identify your weekly financial contribution (commonly referred to as 2.4 letter) – you can now contact the Assistant Director of Nursing and request to be put on a waiting list.

Step 5:

Receipt of a letter of financial sanction** – you can now contact the Assistant Director of Nursing in Marymount (or another nursing home of your choice) to inform them that funding has been released***.

*NHSS approval is when you have been approved for funding

**NHSS sanction is when the money is ready to be drawn down from the NHSS

***At times when the list is very large it may close for a period of time
